Background Research

i was doing a little back round research an this is what I learned. During my background research I researched information
about my project. This info. will help you under stand why I'm doing this experiment. I researched what is and isolator, and why dose
ice melt, I also researched what is temperature an it tells why it helps prevent ice from melting.
I was researching why ice melts, and learned that water was made of tiny particles which are always moving. But when the temp.
cools down the particles slow down and stick together forming ice. Then when the temp.warms up the particles
separate and start to move again.
I researching what is temp. and it said it is the average heat of and object.the temp. doesn't depend
on the size of the object if you have different cups of boiling water they will be the same temperature.
temperature is every where in the winter its cold, as in the summer it hot.In different days
its cold, in other days its cold
An insulator is something that inhibits energy from passing from one area to the other. The other material that
allows energy to move is called a conductor. certain insulator such as plastic and rubber that is why power lines are
covered in rubber.Conductors such as copper, and iron allow energy to transfer That is why
most pipes or cords in your house are copper.
I hope the research I did will help you get a better idea about this experiment. This information may have helped
clear up parts of this subject.

Detailed Procedure

  1. set clear plastic cups full of water (200ml) in freezer freeze for one day
  2. cover with isolator( 2 sheets of News paper, and two sheets of lined paper)
  3. place temp. probe in ice, and hook up to computer
  4. set to record temp. every 2 minutes for one school day 7 hours
  5. let the temp. probe collect data
  6. at the end of the day take data put it in Google docs and make graph
  7. repeat twice for each isolator
  8. then put data on wiki page

Data Analysis

My graphs show how well the two insulators did in the experiment. I judged my out come by how long the line was
on the zero line. My reason for this is at zero degrees Celsius ice melts, so when the line levels out at zero and then
rises the ice has fully melted.

Conclusion

I will now tell you whether or not my hypothesis was right or. My hypothesis was right News paper did work better than lined paper. I believe this happened because the news paper was thinker than the lined paper.

Discussion

I did this experiment to see what the best isolator is for ice, because if you need to pack ice so it doesn't melt. My data proves my hypothesis that news paper will work the best. My experiment could be used in future research to test further into this experiment.

Benefit to Community and/or Science

It will help people keep ice and and what ever the ice is isolating colder and unspoiled for a longer amount of time
